Excellent, and highly recommended. It was kind of slow and I didn’t understand it while I was reading that first time. When used as whole- class read-along, the kits solve the age-old problem of some students not reading the assignment.

There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Switching from narrator to the boy’s POV is supposed to help, but I find it confusing. Bierce employed a distinctive style of writing, especially in his stories.

I will spare biercd the grim ending but note that Bierce is often reported as “Poe like” in his writing and is known for his disturbing realism. I kept thinking the soldiers were ghost or zombies. I probably had to read parts of this 3 different times to fully understand it.

Story of the Week: Chickamauga

A little boy goes wondering in the woods, gets lost overnight, and stumbles upon a very strange and somewhat horrifying spectacle of the night.

The child soon loses his way and finally falls asleep for some hours.

What I can’t understand is chickamaga Bierce is trying to convey. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. I did, however, find an interesting hcickamauga by Bierce called The Devil’s Dictionarywhich is like a dictionary, but with cynical definitions.
